Trash day
Picked up by GFL Environmental. October-May: Tuesdays only. Saturday before Memorial Day through end of September: Tuesdays and Saturdays. Additional pickup the Saturday after Easter.
Recycling: Optional curbside 96-gallon bin through GFL: every other week October-May, weekly June-September, $122.93 per bin, apply in person or by mail with application and check. Drop-off: Brunswick County Recycling Center, 1709 Oxpen Road, Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat 8:00 am-6:00 pm.
Yard debris: Second and fourth Fridays of March, April, May, October, November and December; biodegradable bags or bundles max 5 feet / 50 pounds; limit 10 items per residence.
Carts at curb by 6:00 am on collection days; bag trash before putting it in the cart.
Building permits
Apply, pay and book inspections in the Town's online permitting portal.
Town Planning & Inspections. Work in, over or within 75 feet of water needs written authorization from the Town or NC Division of Coastal Management, (910) 796-7215; jet ski lifts need permits.

Re-entry after a storm
After a storm the Town checks safety before allowing return; if damage is severe, re-entry may be strictly limited. Owners check only their own property and watch for hazards.
Decal: Vehicle evacuation decal, lower left windshield corner, unobstructed; all decals expire December 31 each year.
Property owners: decal arrives by mail with water bills before the season. Island business owners: contact Town Hall. Off-island service providers: contact Town Hall to verify eligibility first.
Paid parking & permits
Annual (calendar year) permit for a single vehicle (includes LSVs and trailers). accessible plate/hangtag in a designated accessible space parks free.
Cost: $175 annual single vehicle; $5/hour up to 4 hours; $20/day over 4 hours; $80/week (7 consecutive days)
Enforced: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm daily (free before/after); license-plate verification.

The street rules
Golf carts are not allowed on NC roadways; allowed are Low Speed Vehicles registered with NCDMV, annually inspected, insured, driver's license required, car/booster seats for children; headlights, taillights, turn signals, mirrors; travel lane not sidewalk or bike lanes.

Pay your property tax
Brunswick County collects county and municipal taxes for all towns EXCEPT Holden Beach and Ocean Isle Beach, so Holden Beach bills its own Town tax; a Town Tax Request Form is on /residents.
County: due September 1, payable without interest through January 5 (2% interest from Jan 6, plus 0.75% per month).

Town of Holden Beach: $0.14 (14 cents)
County 0.342 + Town 0.14 = 0.482 per $100 value, plus any county fire fee. County table 'Tax Rates From 2024 to 2031' shows Holden Beach 0.14 for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

NC Tag & Tax Together
Your vehicle property tax is billed together with your registration renewal. The DMV mails the notice about 60 days before your tags expire. Pay online at myNCDMV (the payment processor adds $3 + 1.85%), by mail, or at a license plate agency.
